Well I heard the peepers yesterday. April 17th! That is when I make my personal acceptance that Spring is here in Maine. I took some time today to celebrate, by grabbing my camera and tripod and ducked into one of my ground blinds that I set up on my property the day before.
It is so exciting to see the migratory birds returning. Mornings are starting to be filled with new bird songs and mating calls each day. Most winters I have the hardy little Junco stay with me for the Winter. This year they decided to spend their winter somewhere else besides Industry, at least not in my back yard. As if they new I was a bit disappointed in their “no show” last winter, they were determined to make up for it this Spring, for they have showed up in flocks. Today I filled my feeders three times and most were empty by dusk. The juncos out numbered the other songbirds 100 to 1 I am sure.
Regardless of their numbers I love watching these common but neat, flashy little
sparrows. I was blessed to capture some nice images today. Sitting in my blind or walking with my camera watching for wildlife is good therapy for me.
May you walk softly and slowly with your camera or binoculars or just your eyes this Spring and see how much you can see and identify of God’s marvelous creation. Hope you enjoy the Juncos and some of it’s interesting “life history facts” I included with this link.
Be sure to check out any new or updated album galleries. I have been making sub-albums to make it easier for customers to browse. In the “Bird” album gallery for instance you will now see other sub-galleries of Bluebirds, Juncos, Eagles, Chickadees, etc.
